　　Stairs是一道樓梯;stair是“樓梯或階梯的一級(jí)”，此字是英國(guó)英語(yǔ)British English;在美國(guó)和蘇格蘭，指樓梯或扶梯一級(jí)時(shí)，用step，不用stair。例：

　　She is walking down the stairs.

　　她正走下樓梯/樓梯的梯級(jí)。

　　Mrs.So stood on the top stair/step.

　　蘇太太站在樓梯的最高一級(jí)。

　　表達(dá)“五級(jí)樓梯”、“十級(jí)樓梯”等意時(shí)，人們一般說five steps和ten steps，以免與stairs(整個(gè)樓梯)混淆一起，故不說five stairs或ten stairs。順帶一提，梯子(ladder)的踏級(jí)稱為rung。
